25 Factors to Consider When Adopting From Kyrgyzstan As of October 2008, the Kyrgyz government halted all international adoptions due to allegations of corruption and illegal processing and has not yet implemented a new processing system. A draft law amending the Family Code to establish new adoption regulations has passed its 2nd and 3rd readings in the Kyrgyz Parliament, and on May 6, 2011 President Otunbaeva signed the law and tasked the Government to bring legislation into conformity with this new law within 3 months.
However, at this time it is not possible for new intercountry adoption cases to move forward and we are unable to estimate when new adoptions from Kyrgyzstan may resume. Check the State Department website for updates on Kyrgyz adoptions.
