Sleep Issues

  • Sleepless in America by Mary Sheedy Kurcinka. What I like about Kurcinka's books, including this one, is that they are practical and seem to honor well the balance between what is best for the child and what is best for parents. I interviewed the author on June 25, 2008 and you can listen to the interview on the radio page of this website.
  • nocrysleepThe No-Cry Sleep Solution for Toddlers and Preschoolers by Elizabeth Pantley. There is a section in this book on sleep issues with adopted kids. I interviewed Elizabeth on the Creating a Family radio show on June 11, 2008. You can listen to this show at the radio show page.
  • Solve Your Child’s Sleep Problems (New, Revised, and Expanded Edition) by Richard Ferber. Parents either love or hate Ferber’s approach, but it is often misrepresented as simply a "let them cry it out" approach, which it is not.
  • Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child by Marc Weissbluth
  • Helping Your Child Sleep Through the Night by Joanne Cuthbertson and Susanna Schevill. Although this is an older resource, I think the advice has stood the test of time, even if you have to update the "put babies to sleep on their stomach" advice.
