It is a cool experience. We take groups locally, so perhaps there is a church or group in your town that does this. There are groups that arrange for trips and welcome families. One group is Embrace the Dream (goes to an orphanage near Puebla, Mexico) and another is Orphans Resources International (goes to Guatemala).

Dawn, thanks for this reminder – getting out of our shells and into other peoples’ lives is one of the great joys in life, and I sure can’t wait to bring our kids on those adventures!

Thank you for this great post. I’ve been lucky enough to participate in one mission to Guatemala. Unfortunately, my oldest was only 4 at the time, so I didn’t bring the kids along. But I can’t wait to go back soon as a whole family. What a special experience it will be!
