Yeah, the misuse of transfer and implant drive me nuts too, but I haven't been able to articulate why very well. Mind if I borrow your explanation.

I look at my kids now and wonder if a mistake could have happened, but I really wouldn't want to know. Now we want a third and we are planning to adopt because it having a genetic connection doesn't matter to us anymore. We hope to adopt two. I've been hearing you talk about special needs or older kids and we are int he process of listening to all your old shows on the topic. We are leaning that way now. Some of those shows are real gold mines of information. I'm loving them all. My husband doesn't want me to listen without him so that we'll stay even on the information front, but it's pretty hard. I cheat every once in awhile. :-)

Amen. I correct the newscasters from my couch whenever I hear them using the term "implant". Makes me crazy.

As for medical mistakes, ask questions. Lots and lots of questions. Make the doc repeat everything he says to you. If it sounds questionable, ask again. Go to each and every appointment, ER, and ET with a list of questions.

Thank you for this post and especially for the radio show on this topic. I just listened to it and the timing couldn't have been better for me. I felt reassured but I immediately called my clinic and felt a whole lot better once I talked with them. I had no idea what questions to ask until I listened to the show. Now that I've read your Top Ten Tips for Avoiding an IVF Mistake, I will follow through on some of your suggestions, but I've already asked about the labeling and identifier suggestions that I was most worried about. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

This is an absolutely wonderful post! As someone who will be using donor eggs very soon, this is timely for me personally. I am going to print this list and use it when I go to my doctor's office or when I'm calling and talking to the nurses. Thank you so much!
